Breaking the Anxiety Cycle in the Workplace.

If you're like most people, you've probably experienced anxiety at some point in your life. Maybe it was during a big presentation at work or a first date. Whatever the cause, you probably know that feeling of your heart racing, the butterflies in your stomach, and the fear that you will not measure up.

For some people, anxiety is a passing feeling that comes and goes. But for others, it's a chronic condition that can interfere with their everyday lives. If you fall into the latter category, you might be all too familiar with what's known as the anxiety cycle.

The anxiety cycle is a self-reinforcing loop that can be difficult to break out of. It usually starts with an anxious thought (e.g., "I'm not good enough") which leads to anxious feelings (e.g., nervousness, insecurity, doubt). These anxious feelings then lead to nervous behaviours (e.g., avoidance, procrastination), which reinforce the original thought ("See? I told you I wasn't good enough"). And so the cycle continues.

Breaking out of the anxiety cycle is essential for well-being and workplace performance. This blog post will explore how Executive Coaching and existential approaches to Psychotherapy can help break the cycle and foster healthy coping mechanisms.

Executive Coaching for Anxiety Relief.

Executive Coaches are trained professionals who help clients achieve their goals by providing support, accountability, and guidance. They also help their clients identify and change self-defeating behaviours that keep them from reaching their full potential.

Many executive coaches use a strengths-based approach to coaching, which helps clients focus on their strengths rather than their weaknesses. This approach is particularly effective in reducing stress and promoting well-being. Executive coaching can also help clients learn healthy coping mechanisms for dealing with anxiety-inducing situations such as public speaking or job interviews.

Existential Approaches to Psychotherapy.

Existential therapy is a philosophical approach to therapy that emphasises our shared human experience of existence. This therapy can help people struggling with anxiety by providing a different perspective on their anxieties and fears. Existential therapy focuses on death, freedom, choice, responsibility, meaninglessness, and isolation. By exploring these topics with a therapist, clients can better understand what it means to be human and how to find meaning in their lives despite experiencing anxiety or other challenges.

No matter our circumstances, we all share in the human experience of existence—an experience that includes highs and lows, triumphs and struggles. If you're struggling with anxiety, know that you're not alone. There are many helpful resources available to assist you in breaking out of the anxious thoughts-anxious feelings-anxious behaviours loop. Executive coaching and existential approaches to Psychotherapy are examples of effective interventions that can help promote well-being and workplace performance despite anxiety or other challenges.

If you're like most people, the word "meditation" probably conjures up images of people sitting cross-legged on the floor, eyes closed, with a look of serenity on their faces. But meditation is so much more than that!
